How we build a study-abroad plan for a Nepali applicant
Behind every article and every counselling session at The Next Education Consultancy is a defined methodology. This page documents the reasoning we apply, so students and parents can see exactly how a recommendation is produced and challenge it if a specific assumption does not match their case.
1. Applicant profile
We start with the applicant, not the destination. Every counselling session records:
- Academic history: SEE / SLC, +2 / A-Level / IB, Bachelor (if applicable), transcripts and character certificate.
- English test position: current IELTS / PTE / TOEFL / Duolingo score, target and gap.
- Work experience: role, employer, duration, salary certificate.
- Family sponsor: relationship certificate, sponsor income, tax clearance, and bank balance certificate.
- Career goal: intended profession after graduation and whether Nepal-return or long-term migration is the goal.
2. Destination fit
For each candidate destination country, we score the fit against the applicant profile on:
- Eligibility: does the applicant meet the current government financial threshold, English requirement and course-fit rule? (Reference: current government sources cited in our destination guides.)
- Cost: total first-year cost = tuition + government financial threshold + visa fee + health cover + travel + Nepal-side documentation.
- Post-study work: length and quality of PSW / PGWP / OPT / Zoekjaar aligned to the applicant’s career goal.
- PR pathway: whether the chosen course occupation appears on the destination country’s current skilled-migration list, and whether the applicant’s age, English score and work experience fit the current points system.
- Time to intake: whether the applicant can realistically prepare by the target intake month.
3. Course and institution shortlist
We shortlist courses by:
- Government-recognised institution status (DLI in Canada; CRICOS-registered provider in Australia; Home Office licensed sponsor in the UK; SEVP-certified in the US; NZQA-accredited in New Zealand).
- Course match to the applicant’s previous qualification.
- Course tuition band relative to the applicant’s sponsor capacity.
- Post-study work eligibility for the course and, where relevant, its listed occupation code.
- Scholarship availability (only awards that appear on the official sponsor’s or university’s own website).
Rankings are used as a supporting signal, not the primary filter. Where we cite rankings, we cite the current-year public rankings from Times Higher Education, QS or Complete University Guide, and never a competitor consultancy’s internal list.
4. Cost model
For every applicant we build a per-year cost sheet in Nepali Rupees at the current exchange rate. The base numbers come from government sources:
- Australia: AUD 29,710 per year living-cost evidence plus tuition and travel (Department of Home Affairs).
- Canada: CAD 22,895 per year plus tuition and travel, single applicant outside Quebec (IRCC).
- New Zealand: NZD 20,000 per year plus prepaid tuition (Immigration New Zealand).
- United Kingdom: Home Office benchmark of GBP 1,483 per month in London or GBP 1,334 per month outside London for up to 9 months.
- United States: financial evidence per Form I-20, plus USD 535 in mandatory US Government fees (USD 185 MRV + USD 350 SEVIS).
5. Compliance mapping
We map each applicant to the Nepal-side compliance checklist: MoEST No Objection Certificate, sponsor tax clearance, bank balance certificate, salary certificate, sponsorship affidavit and relationship certificate. Where a document is missing or ambiguous, we identify the fix before lodgement rather than after.
6. Recommendation and disclosure
Every recommendation we present carries: (i) the reason we prefer it, (ii) the government or official source behind each figure, (iii) the residual risk to be planned for. We disclose that we earn commission from partner institutions and that this commission does not change our policy analysis, which is based on government sources.
7. Ongoing accuracy
Government policies change. Our published guides are refreshed every quarter (or immediately after a policy change) as described on our How We Fact-Check page. Reader-flagged inaccuracies can be reported to info@thenext.edu.np and are reviewed within 10 working days.
